A Big STAR Act Update, and a Big Deadline

Thanks to your advocacy efforts, the most comprehensive childhood cancer bill ever is making its way through the Congress. But the window of opportunity is closing and we need your help now more than ever. Read on to see how you can help us make history in Washington for kids with cancer.

STAR Act update

This week, we hit a massive target in our push to pass the Childhood Cancer STAR ActIn the House, the 250th member of Congress just signed on to the bill!

This means that nearly 60% of the House — with strong support from both Republicans and Democrats — have declared that childhood cancer is a top priority and that we should take immediate action to find better treatment and cures.

We have made tremendous progress is advancing the STAR Act, the most comprehensive childhood cancer bill ever taken up by Congress, all thanks to advocates like you.

However, we have a big deadline. Congress only has a few weeks left in session before they go into recess for the upcoming election. Which means there is not a lot of time left for Congress to have a formal hearing on the bill and move it to a vote.

While we have garnered massive support, congressional leadership has told us that they only have time to take up the most pressing bills that have the strongest support before the elections. So it is more important than ever for Congress to hear from you.

If you have been waiting to take action, wondering when your voice will have the biggest impact, the time is NOW.

Has your member of Congress already signed on to the STAR Act? If you see their name on this list, thank them and urge them to tell the House Energy and Commerce Committee to hold a hearing to approve the bill and send it to the full House for a vote.

If your member hasn’t signed on, tell them to join the 250 members who have signed on.

This is a hugely important bill that already has strong bipartisan support. The more members who sign on, the better chance it will have to be one of the bills that congressional leaders agree to consider in the final weeks of this Congress.

Together, we can make this happen. We can pass the most comprehensive childhood cancer bill in history. We can get the STAR Act signed into law and ensure that all our kids get the attention and care they deserve.
