June 21, 2015

With 98 photo submissions — our biggest turnout yet — this year’s #BestBaldDad contest made for some tough decisions. How could you not vote for all of them?

After thousands of votes and countless requests to crown them all as the #BestBaldDad, we finally have our top three winners, each receiving a prize from our St. Baldrick’s shop and ownyourdome.com!

Introducing your 2015 #BestBaldDad winners:

Third place

Stepdad hugging stepson in treatment for childhood cancer

Submitted by April Adamo Schippers: “Bald and by his side through surgery, every radiation treatment, and each night in the hospital for chemo . Even four years later, he is the one that gives him his nightly GH shot. Best step-daddy!”

Second place

Grandfather sits with granddaughter, both bald, while she was in treatment for osteosarcoma

Submitted by Evelyn Wilson: “This is my dad, Katie’s grandpa. My dad decided he would grow his hair and shave it when Katie lost her hair. He let Katie shave his head. Katie was diagnosed on June 7, 2010 which happens to be his birthday. He spent his birthday in the hospital with her as we were told the diagnosis. My dad lost his son, my twin brother, in 1973 from childhood cancer (leukemia) at the age of 6, and then almost 40 years later his 15-year-old granddaughter was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. He has been a huge support to our family, showing courage when losing not only his son to childhood cancer, but also his granddaughter who passed away on Feb. 10, 2011. He is always there for his family and supports them in all they do. As a local community politician, he proudly wore his bald head at community events.”
