Five super hero friends Isabella, Sterne, Lincoln, Ian and Cassandra help ring in $5 million raised by St. Baldrick’s volunteers for childhood cancer research! They’re wearing, of course, the garb of superheroes – Wonder Capes!

Ian, pictured center wearing the “5” cape, was diagnosed with a type of childhood cancer in 2009 and is set out to be a super hero for kids just like him by raising money and shaving his head for the fourth time!

Amy, the mother of Isabella, Sterne and Lincoln, shares how Wonder Capes is helping bring smiles to our world’s true super heroes:

One day, our daughter announced she would like a “Superhero-Princess Cape.” We enlisted the help of my sister, and together set out to make the very first Wonder Capes for her and her brothers. That one cape has turned into thousands donated to children all over the globe! Each and every Cape made is treated as if I’m making it for my own child. It isn’t done in mass production — every single one is individually made. A lot of time, thought, reflection, and prayer goes into their Cape.

In a child’s mind, just about anything is possible. From becoming a fairy princess to a superhero, a child’s dreams can come true by the simple act of pretending. The concept of the Cape is simple — to spark the imagination of children! I want it to make children feel special, powerful, and brave. “When your child is going through something you have no control over, your Capes help lift some of the darkness of doubt and fear away – a tangible item to keep near, to remind you of the bravery not only your child is searching for, but the helpless, lost parents as well,” said one parent.

“When a child can tap into their own imagination, they can get through remarkable things.” – Peter C. Adamson, M.D., Children’s Oncology Group Chair

A Mom once told me, “Their Cape symbolizes Imagination, Healing, and most of all HOPE!” Those words mean everything to me, and reaffirms why I do what I do!

“Be the Change you wish to see in the world” — I love this saying and believe St. Baldrick’s is doing just that! They are working diligently to provide a future for all children with cancer and help them embrace fears and renew strengths. Thank you for what you do. I am beyond honored to provide Capes to St. Baldrick’s Ambassadors and Honored Kids because children fighting cancer are our true superheroes!

You can be a super hero, too – make a donation to fund childhood cancer research or get involved in an event near you!
