Celebrating 25 Years

46 Mommas Shave for the Brave

Each weekday in the US, 46 mothers are told that their child has cancer. We are all mommas who have heard those words, and we united to shave our heads for THE BRAVE, our own kids. We represent ALL the mothers who make the cancer journey with their child. We are proud to be raising funds for St. Baldrick's Foundation and, as the inaugural team for the 46 Mommas Campaign, we set the lofty goal of $1Million (usd)! On September 7, 2010 we gathered in the Central Courtyard of LA's Hollywood & Highland Center. Surrounded by friends, family, St. Baldrick's staff and volunteers, supporters and complete strangers -- WE SHAVED FOR THE BRAVE! We had raised over $150,000.00 collectively before the shave! The shaving event started at 4pm, and by 6:30 the Mommas were ALL BALD! It was quite a sight, and quite an experience! Be sure to check out all the pictures on our team website: http://46mommas.com A few days after our BIG SHAVE we appeared on the Stand Up to Cancer Telethon. The StandUp2Cancer Foundation had heard about this group of moms who were shaving their heads to raise funds for St. Baldrick's Foundation, and they invited our team to represent the childhood cancer advocacy community. It was an exciting opportunity, and we are grateful to both foundations for working together to help our team bring a lot of awareness to childhood cancer. We remain absolutely committed to our million dollar goal for St. Baldrick's! With the formation of a second team of mommas for 2011, and the Campaign Page created for us by the foundation, we are confident that we can reach it! Tiffany Beamer's (our 2010 Team Captain) original idea was that people would really notice a bunch of bald moms, and that it would create a lot of awareness. You can continue to support that idea, and our ongoing campaign, by creating your own 46 Mommas event! From our formation as a team over on People Against Childhood Cancer (http://curechildhoodcancer.ning.com,) to our successful Campaign kick-off event, we have said, "awareness leads to funding leads to research leads to CUREs!" We are team of women from across the country, all of whom have an important reason to advocate for the children of cancer. We have all worn the shoes of a cancer mom. We don't want anymore mommas to wear our shoes. JOIN US in supporting St. Baldrick's work to conquer kids' cancer!
