When Mary Stewart’s high risk Acute Myeloid Leukemia relapsed, her doctors put her chances of survival between 10-20 percent. Against all odds, she is now five years in remission. Her journey is nothing short of a miracle, but it also comes with a lifetime of health issues. We need better research and better treatments for our kids! Together with St. Baldrick’s and with your help we will put an end to pediatric cancer.

Sunny Cold Days. A band called Sharks and Robbers. These are the kinds of clever and creative little sayings that Mary Stewart would always invent. At four years old, she was already the "straw that stirred the drink" in our family of five. Mary Stewart (aka Massy) was full of energy, smiles and just a joy to be around. We didn't worry too much when she had a persistent fever and runny nose. We had two older kids and sometimes kids just get sick. But when the fever didn't subside, my wife took her to the doctor. That night as we were putting Massy to bed, the doctor called back and changed our lives forever. She told us to get Massy to Stanford Children's Hospital as fast as possible. She was anemic and her blood work was very concerning. She was soon diagnosed with high-risk AML. After a lot of chemo, radiation, and a stem cell transplant we got into remission. Twenty months later a fresh, new nightmare landed on us when Massy relapsed. She endured more chemo, more radiation, and another stem cell transplant. We are incredibly fortunate to be in remission for 5 years! I think they call it cured. We were lucky. So many were not.
