Send Kids’ Cancer Packing

You Pack the Power to Take Childhood Back from Cancer

Each year, about 2,500 kids begin a battle with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the most common childhood cancer. Thanks to research funded by supporters like you, a new breakthrough lets many of them receive lifesaving treatment through a backpack they carry for 28 days.

Now, with your support they won't carry it alone. Take on the challenge and help Send Kids’ Cancer Packing™.

“She felt better on the Blina backpack. I felt like I finally had my kid back. She was stronger, she was eating again, and her hair even started growing back. She was able to do everything the other kids were doing. She went to school, she danced, she played on the playground, she could run and jump around.”

The Backpacks That Save Lives

Blinatumomab, a new lifesaving treatment for kids with cancer, didn’t happen overnight. It started with fundraisers like this, powered by people like you. This breakthrough increased disease-free survival rates for children with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the most common subtype of childhood cancer, from 88% to 96%.

It works by training the immune system to hunt down leukemia cells. Kids now receive this treatment through a backpack in two 28-day cycles, giving them the freedom to live, play, and do the things they love while fighting cancer.

“Blinatumomab represents a paradigm shift in how we treat ALL. For the first time, we can envision replacing toxic treatments with a safer, targeted therapy without compromising, and even improving, survival rates. We are grateful for the support of so many donors who helped make this discovery possible, including the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.”

—Dr. Doug Hawkins, COG Group Chair

St. Baldrick’s played a crucial role in making the blina clinical trial — and others like it — possible through more than $101 million in funding to the Children’s Oncology Group (COG).
