LOS ANGELES (Aug. 1, 2023) – The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the largest charity funder of childhood cancer research grants, is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard A. Bucher, Ph. D. to its Board of Directors.

Richard A. Bucher, Ph. D. serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Victaulic, the world’s leading producer of grooved mechanical pipe joining and flow control solutions and headquartered in Pennsylvania. A leader renowned for both innovation and engineering expertise, Dr. Bucher will bring the same acumen to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation as it drives scientific innovation in research to cure childhood cancers.

Dr. Bucher serves on the FM Approvals Advisory Council, University of Maryland’s Board of Visitors for the Department of Fire Protection Engineering as well as the Tugboat Institute. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees for the Manufacturers Alliance and is a member of the Campaign Cabinet for the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley and the Campaign Committee for the DaVinci Science Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Bucher and his wife, Amy, are active advocates and fundraisers for childhood cancer research via St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Dr. Bucher (a Volunteer Event Organizer and shavee) and Amy (herself a former St. Baldrick’s Foundation Board Member, Volunteer Event Organizer, past shavee and a founder of the organization’s Advocacy program) lost their eldest child, Arden, to neuroblastoma in 2008. In her memory, they have dedicated more than 14 years of service and their efforts have generated hundreds of thousands of dollars for research. Their annual event, held each September, attracts leaders and philanthropists from the Lehigh Valley to support lifesaving research.

“Dr. Bucher’s appointment to the Board of Directors reflects our commitment to the families we serve as well as our commitment to engage new industries to support childhood cancer research,” said Kathleen Ruddy, St. Baldrick’s Foundation CEO. “Both Rick and his family have avidly dedicated themselves to the mission and his personal experience and passion for research will help drive progress to conquer kids’ cancer.”
