The Story Behind This Hero Fund

Hannah was blessed with a quick mind, a generous spirit and a faithful soul. She was born with a beautiful head of dark hair and warmth in her heart. Hannah was a happy, sweet, verbal girl. She was always curious and loved learning new things. Hannah had many friends, she made them wherever she went. She always had a smile on her face. Hannah acquired her Grandma’s love of music. She played the cello and loved taking dance lessons, which she did for eight years until her diagnosis. Hannah also played soccer and softball. She had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed joke books. Hannah was an avid reader and had become a Harry Potter expert of sorts. Hannah was the best pal and confidante to her sister Stephanie and adored her baby brother Alex.

On September 28, 2000, Hannah was diagnosed with an inoperable brain stem glioma. She bravely battled this horrible disease, undergoing simultaneous radiation and chemotherapy. Hannah kept her spirits up, buoyed by her family and some very special friends who stayed by her side throughout this ordeal. Her tumor was very aggressive and she left this world on May 12, 2001, just before her 12th birthday.

After Hannah died, her Dad Tom read an article about St. Baldrick’s. He shaved his head to raise funds for St. Baldrick’s for over a decade. Her Mom, Lynn, sister Stephanie, brother Alex and other friends and family have also participated in various activities to assist in the fight against childhood cancer. Her family has now created the Hannah Levy Miller Hero Fund to serve as a lasting tribute to Hannah by supporting vital research for DIPG (diffuse intrinsic pontine gliomas) and other childhood cancers, as she would have wished us to do.

Please join us in fighting the battle against childhood brain tumors. They kill great kids.
