Be Bald Be Brave

Be a hero for kids with cancer! Join this St. Baldrick's event, and whether you decide to shave your head, volunteer, or donate, we hope you'll be a part of the excitement! The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-powered charity that funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government. Get involved and you'll be giving hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers!

I'm shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research! Did you know that kids' cancers are different from adult cancers? It's true. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. So I decided to do something about it by raising money for cures. Now I need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.

A note from the Volunteer Event Organizers: On July 23rd, 2016, we received the worst news of our lives. After finding a firm spot in our son Ezra's abdomen, the ER doctors at Children's Mercy Hospital told us it was a tumor. At that point, they thought it might be one of two different cancers, either Wilms or Neuroblastoma. After confirming that it was most likely Wilms, they scheduled him for surgery to remove his cancerous right kidney. Thankfully his surgery was a success, and the surgeon was able to remove Ezra's tumor and kidney completely. Once we got confirmation from the biopsy that we were looking at stage 2 Wilms, they had a course of treatment for us. Ezra received his first round of chemo before we left the hospital. He had 19 rounds of chemotherapy, and we are were so grateful to find out in December of 2016 that his scans showed no evidence of reoccurrence or metastatic spread.

Even though we received good news in December 2016, our lives for the next several years will involve scans, X-rays, and tests to watch for signs of relapse. This is something we wouldn't wish on anybody else.

You can read our cancer journal here: https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/ezragustin

Our lives have been forever changed since Ezra's cancer diagnosis.  We wanted to organize this event because we are angry and frustrated that only a small portion of money goes toward childhood cancer research.  If this doesn't make you angry, you haven't been paying attention.  That was us before Ezra's diagnosis.  Now we know.  Now we are angry.  Now we are helping to do something about it!  Please join us!

St. Baldrick’s Honored Kids

Kids with cancer are our reason for it all. They’re the inspiration behind our event and the reason we’re helping fund childhood cancer research. We believe all kids should be able to grow up and turn their dreams into realities. Join our event or make a donation, and click the photos below to read their incredible stories.
