2023 Cocktails for a Cure
2021 Impact Report 2020 Impact Report
Battle Osteosarcoma has teamed up with several well-known pediatric cancer foundations to fund a new $1.5 million "Fight Osteosarcoma Together Super Grant." The goal of this grant is to rapidly translate the research to a clinical trial that will benefit patients within three years. Dozens of osteosarcoma-specific research proposals are currently under scientific review and the recipient of this grant will be announced in June 2023.
Since inception, Battle Osteosarcoma has been laser focused on raising funds to improve the bleak outlook facing pediatric osteosarcoma patients. It is unacceptable that first line chemotherapy is highly toxic and the regimen remains unchanged for the past 40 years. Relapse rates are as high as 50%. And there are no proven treatments for metastatic osteosarcoma.
Battle Osteosarcoma was founded in 2019 by families of a small town affected by osteosarcoma. Inspired by the courage of Charlotte, Dylan, and Tyler, Battle Osteosarcoma set a simple yet ambitious goal: blaze new trails in the fight against this devastating disease.
2021 brought painful heartache. Our osteo families faced unimaginable tragedy, losing both Charlotte and Dylan to metastatic osteosarcoma. Yet their memories and those of Tyler, who passed in 2015, gave us resolve to make headway against osteosarcoma. With their determination in our hearts, Battle Osteosarcoma raised over $1.45 million to fully fund research at the UCSF Sweet-Cordero Lab to identify new drug combinations for metastatic osteosarcoma.
We continue our battle in memory of Charlotte, Dylan, and Tyler. We remain ever committed to developing better options and a brighter future for osteosarcoma patients and their families.
Prior donations given to Battle Osteosarcoma have supported a research grant for the Sweet Cordero Lab at UCSF and an additional contribution to the lab in support of Dr. Betsy Young, a promising young researcher.
New donations will fund a three-year grant for a research team focused on osteosarcoma. "Fight Osteosarcoma Together Super Grant" will be funded by a collaboration of pediatric cancer organizations, including Battle Osteosarcoma. Through a competitive selection process led by St. Baldrick's, the Super Grant will be awarded to a high-impact pediatric osteosarcoma research project with a rapid translation to improvement in patient outcomes.
