Childhood Cancer Research Grant Given in Honor of Pennsylvania Child

Bethlehem, Pa. – The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants, is proud to announce the Arden Quinn Bucher Memorial St. Baldrick’s Hero Fund, created in honor of Arden Quinn from New London Township, Pa., will support lifesaving childhood cancer research at Boston University School of Medicine.

is year, Dr. Hui Feng at Boston University School of Medicine was named the Arden Quinn Bucher Memorial St. Baldrick’s Scholar and awarded $96,625 to support her research on neuroblastoma.

Dr. Feng’s work on T cell leukemia recently showed that when a specific gene is turned off it will prevent tumor growth caused by a close relative of the MYCN gene, C-MYC. Dr. Feng’s current research aims to learn if targeting this gene will suppress neuroblastoma development associated with MYCN activity.

“Advancing the efforts of the best and brightest researchers in pediatric oncology via the St. Baldrick’s Foundation is why we launched the Arden Quinn Bucher Memorial Fund. Our hope on this, the 10th year without Arden because of Neuroblastoma, is that we are making a difference.,” said Arden’s mother, Amy Bucher. “We want other children to reach the milestones denied our daughter. We have consistently donated and raised money in order to improve treatments for kids. We know that investment in research on their diseases will lead to cures for all infants, children, adolescents, and young adults around the world who find themselves in the unimaginable battle against the cancers unique to them. We are so grateful for the generous support of our friends and family who understand the importance of St. Baldrick’s mission and share the dream of one day reaching that goal.”

Arden Quinn Bucher’s intelligence, empathy and dynamic personality charmed everyone. Prior to being diagnosed with neuroblastoma at 2-years-old in October 2007, she happily played with boundless energy. Despite the difficult moments that came with treatment, Arden bravely kept smiling and learning. The Arden Quinn Bucher Memorial St. Baldrick’s Hero Fund honors Arden’s intelligence, bravery, empathetic and dynamic personality through funding research and has raised more than $104,000 to date.

St. Baldrick’s Hero Funds are an ongoing way for friends, family members and groups to donate or raise funds to honor a loved one. To learn more about the program visit the St. Baldrick’s Hero Fund page.
