Childhood Cancer Research Grant Given in Honor of Cleveland Child

CLEVELAND (September 20, 2016) – The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-powered and donor-centered charity dedicated to raising money for childhood cancer research, is proud to announce that a St. Baldrick’s Hero Fund created in memory of Rebecca Meyer, from Cleveland, will support lifesaving childhood cancer research. Since 2014, Rebecca’s hero fund has raised more than $278,000.

The Rebecca Alison Meyer Fund for Pediatric Cancer Research was started in memory of Rebecca – the joyful and spunky little girl who had just turned 5 when she began battling brain cancer. Rebecca was kind, loving and playful. She rarely smiled in photos; instead she would stick her tongue out or make funny faces. She loved princesses, her siblings and the color purple. Sadly, she died after her brain tumor reappeared, just hours after turning 6.

This year, the Rebecca Alison Meyer Fund for Pediatric Cancer Research St. Baldrick’s Scholar award was granted to Robin Norris, M.D., MS, MPH director, Center for Developmental Therapeutics at the Angie Fowler Adolescent & Young Adult Cancer Institute at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. Dr. Norris will use this grant to identify more effective therapies with fewer side effects for children, adolescents, and young adults with cancer. Dr. Norris is also an assistant professor of pediatrics at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

In March, nearly 200 people gathered in Cleveland Heights to support Rebecca and shaved their heads in solidarity with all kids affected by cancer, raising more than $110,000 as a community.

Help the St. Baldrick’s Foundation continue to fund the best research, wherever it takes place. Make a donation today.
