$85,797 Awarded to SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital to Support Groundwork for Childhood Cancer Research

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (December 21, 2016) –Nonprofit organizations play a critical role in the continuation of medical services at risk of downsizing or elimination. SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital received an infrastructure grant from the St. Baldrick’s Foundation to continue their clinical trials for childhood cancer patients. These clinical trials help find better, safer treatments that can prevent lifelong damage as a result of the very treatment needed to save their lives.

Funding from St. Baldrick’s, totaling $85,797, will help provide support at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon for clinical trials, as well as, provide nurses with an opportunity to gather information and share data with other institutions to help aid in the fight against childhood cancers.

“St. Baldrick’s plays a vital role in improving the care we provide children with cancer,” said William Ferguson, MD, division director and SLUCare professor of pediatrics at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon. “Their generosity and compassion make a lasting impression on the children and families we serve at the most difficult of times.”

Infrastructure grants are awarded based on the need of the institution and its patients, anticipated results of the grant, and local participation in St. Baldrick’s fundraising events and activities.

This series of grants, combined with the more than $22 million awarded in July, brings the
St. Baldrick’s Foundation’s funding total to $24.1 million awarded in 2016.
