$100,000 Awarded to Emory University to Support Promising Childhood Cancer Research

Part of $22 Million Awarded in New Grants by the St. Baldrick’s Foundation

ATLANTA (August 29, 2016) – The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-powered and donor-centered charity dedicated to raising money for childhood cancer research, is proud to award a $100,000 research grant to support the work of Muxiang Zhou, M.D., a researcher at Emory University.

In a previous study, Dr. Zhou discovered that the interaction between two important cancer-related proteins, MDM4 and TOP2A, is responsible for cancer growth and resistance to treatment. With the funding from St. Baldrick’s, his team will develop new drugs to target the proteins with hopes of treating childhood cancers by inhibiting cancer development and killing resistant cancer cells.

“I am extremely grateful for the support of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation,” says Dr. Zhou. “This support will allow me to further advance my research, which I hope will provide an effective new therapy for children with leukemia and neuroblastoma.”

Help the St. Baldrick’s Foundation continue to fund the best research, wherever it takes place. Make a donation today.
