I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Bald Rocks!

Hello. My name is Ammy and I am so excited to be back for my sixth head shaving!!! My first event was in March of 2010 and I honestly thought it would be my ONLY event! I thought it would be that crazy thing I did that one time, you know what I mean? But it didn't work like that for one really awesome reason!
After I shaved in March, which was amazing, my 5 year old daughter asked me how she could help the kids that were sick with cancer. I told her that we could do a bake sale or car wash or something. And she said, "But you shaved your head....why can't I?" Well, I didn't really have a good answer to that question other than to tell her that she could. So, we sat down with her and had her tell us why she wanted to shave to make sure she knew what she was volunteering for. Her answers were so mature and thought out that we really couldn't tell her no so my husband and I began to plan our own event for September of that year. And I told her that if she wanted I would shave with her which made for two shaves in one year! But, she raised almost $1,000 at her event and I was so proud of her!!!
And the rest, as they say, is history! I couldn't stop. By this point I had been on the website so much and had read so many stories of these amazing children fighting for their lives that there was no way I could just stop volunteering for St. Baldrick's. So, I began to plan another event! But, my husband had been deployed to Afghanistan and requested that I not shave at this event....that was the hardest part! To leave our event with hair still on my head was torture! And that's the last year I've done it!
I love working with The St. Baldrick's Foundation! I have had the opportunity to meet so many amazing people in our community and to watch them experience the awesomeness that is a head shaving event! And I am looking forward to many more wonderful events! These families that we have met over the years are beyond amazing. They are facing a horrible monster of a disease and yet still find a way to smile and give back to other families. It's humbling.
I've had people ask me why I am so passionate about this cause when my children are healthy and that question always makes me so angry. Why do I have to wait until cancer comes for my child? Why should I? Why should you? It is going to take all of us working together to defeat this disease and if I would want you to fight for my child then I am going to fight for yours!
Thank you for helping me to help these families because it could just as easily be my family or your family that is fighting this monster tomorrow. Much love to you. Get Your Shave On!
