I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: M1 Team

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: M1 Team

See that mortified, frowny, and upset face in the top left corner? Thats because I LOVE MY HAIR and never want to lose it, ever, ever, EVER! Except of course, if it can help cure childhood cancer!

It has been nothing short of a miracle for my hair to stay on top of my head for the past 26 years, not getting scared away or turning into an bird's nest. We have been through thick and thin together, literally. When I was born the nurses apparently called me spike; not because I was born to become top-dog in a biker gang (although I wish), but rather from my awesome, deep-black, unruly, full-bodied, baby-mane that graced my head from day zero. While in high school biology class I continued to learn that I won the genetic hair lottery by having a widow's peak even though both my parents did not. The inheritance pattern for a widow's peak (for all you science nerds out there) is classically autosomal dominant. This meant that I was a genetic mutant (the naive budding scientist in me deduced with absolute certainty). I thought it was the coolest thing but quickly thought how fortunate I was.

Genetics had reared its ugly head in several ways in my life from my mom having breast cancer twice and a dear family friend, Rachel, having childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) type B. Although I too was a kid at the time Rachel was diagnosed, I couldn't imagine how hard it would be not only to go through chemotherapy but, WAY WAY more importantly, to lose your hair! Fortunately, they both survive to this day, beautiful, strong, resilient as ever, just like my hair!

So, I will be parting ways with my luscious locks, and finally laying to rest my middle school screen name of gurlsluvdacurls for good (sorry ladies), in hopes of raising money for childhood cancer research!  I will also release an extremely embarrassing photo of "sheep dog" Kyle for every $100 raised!

Please considering donating if you:
1. Have the means to donate! (seriously no pressure)
2. Want to see a guy who loves nothing more than his hair get it shaved off!
3. Hates childhood cancer and loves science!
4. Want to see SUPER embarrassing photos of me! (You know thats you :-P)
