I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Ty Strong

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Ty Strong

Hi my name is Tyler Guzman and I am a cancer survivor who was originally diagnosed with Mixed B Cell Myeloid Leukemia on October 15th of 2008. Since then I have been through numerous rounds of chemotherapy treatments, radiation therapy, two bone marrow transplants, and a number of phase one clinical trials. These therapies have kept me in remission since June 1st of 2011, ironically my birthday.. My former oncologist, Dr. Trey Lee, is a St. Baldrick’s Scholar and is currently conducting a CAR T cell trial, that is saving lives as we speak. Without this man and the help from St. Baldrick’s, kids like myself would not be here today. I am forever thankful to Dr. Lee and the medical staffs from Johns Hopkins, the National Institute of Health, and Memorial Sloan Kettering. I am currently attending Stevenson University and pursing my career in Nursing. I have been a part of multiple St. Baldrick’s events in the past, but never as a shave. I have finally gained the courage to shave my head in the honor of all the children who are currently fighting cancer and those that we have lost. I have lost my hair multiple times due to the severity of my treatments. However, there are kids who are much younger than I am that walk around with no hair on their heads. They have been a major source of motivation for me throughout my treatments. Because of these brave children I have decided that it is something that I feel would be for the greater good, especially for such a great cause. The children that I will be honoring include: Ally Jarkiewicz, Allyson Kafka, Joshua Bluestein, Alexis Dembeck, Sandra Frangos, and Luca Assante. I ask that you please donate to this cause so we can reach the 1 million dollar mark this year. All proceeds go to childhood research, unlike some other organizations. If you would like to become a shavee and join my team , please sign up on my page. I want to thank St. Baldrick’s for all that they so in the field of pediatric oncology and I hope that we can continue to raise funds until the cure for cancer is here.
