I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Women@IHS

I'm dyeing my hair with St. Baldrick's to raise money and help conquer kids' cancers! Every 2 minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer worldwide, and 1 in 5 of those in the U.S. will not survive.

Although my family never experienced the rollercoaster of emotions that comes with a diagnosis of childhood cancer, some of my classmates were not so lucky. I saw kids I had known all my life struggle to stay awake in class after chemo sapped their strength, or suddenly experience a drop in their grades because a sibling had been diagnosed.

Cancer is a difficult enough diagnosis for an adult. It is magnitudes more so when it is received by a child.

I couldn't do anything for the people I grew up with when they were undergoing their own trials. Now I can.

If I achieve my goal of $250, I will dye my hair a bright, vibrant green. It is the color of growing plants and has always reminded me of the indelible cycle of life. For every $100 I raise above that, I will maintain the green dye for an additional two weeks. I am a member of a corporate legal team and attorneys are not the flashiest bunch of folks. This color will serve to draw attention to St. Baldrick's and hopefully encourage others to take up this incredibly worthwhile cause.

Thank you and all the best,

Grace
