When you meet Hudon, you will likely see an energetic, happy, curious and fearless little boy. He is full of personality and loves being outside, spending time between the NC beaches and mountains and loves anything that feels like an adventure! He has a big laugh, an even bigger spirit, and a signature dance move that comes out almost every time his favorite song is played.
Hudson is brave in a way that has very little to do with cancer. He has always been the kid who jumps in, explores first, and figures things out as he goes. Cancer may have changed a lot about his life, but it never changed his spirit.
At just five years old, Hudson was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare and aggressive bone cancer. Over the next nine months, he received 15 brutal cycles of chemotherapy at UNC Children's Hospital including five-day in-patient hospital stays, and too many pokes, prods, infusions, and scans to count. In September 2025 we traveled to Memorial Sloan Ketting Cancer Center in NYC, where surgeons successfully removed the tumor with clear margins, and reconstructed his arm with the fibula from his own left leg, cadaver bone, and hardware. We stayed in NYC for a little over a month for recovery and to stay close to his medical team so that they could keep a close eye on him. After recovery, Hudson traveled back to UNC to finish his chemotherapy protocol. On February 11, 2026, Hudson received his final chemo treatment.
Today, Hudson is six years old and cancer free! He continues to be closely monitored with scans and ctDNA testing every three months and continues to travel to MSK for hardware monitoring and minor procedures to keep his arm stable and growing. Along with his regular surveillance, we are working with an integrative oncologist at MD Anderson to help rebuild and strengthen his little body after everything he has been through. Our goal is to keep our little powerhouse as healthy and strong as possible, ready to fight off whatever may come his way, while helping him get back to simply being Hudson again.
Our faith, friends, and community carried us through the hardest season of our lives so far, and Hudson has showed us what true courage and resilience looks like. Kids are so much more resilient than we give them credit for.
We said from the beginning that we wanted to come out of this fire carrying buckets of water for the families walking into it behind us and we are sticking to that promise. That is why being part of St. Baldrick's means so much to our family.
Hudson's story is still being written, and we know that God has big plans for our little boy. We can't wait to see what He has in store for us!
