Would you shave your head for a child? Participants in a St. Baldrick’s event shave their heads in exchange for donations towards fighting childhood cancers. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation funds more childhood cancer research grants than any other organization except the U.S. government. Doors open @ 11, Opening Ceremonies @ 1130am, featuring Sportscaster Deb Placey & St B's Board Member Mike McCreesh. Head Painting by Once Upon a Face Paint & Faces by Wells, entertainment by DJ E-Train, bone marrow drive, bake sale, Legos and head shaving will continue until 1:30pm. Ten years ago, a dozen TeamBrenters, all men, met at a bar in Stamford on St. Patrick’s day and raised $87,000 to shave their heads. Brent was home from the hospital for the day, and it was the first time his parents had left him in six months. Since then, we have watched the event grow, enjoying the Field, the Bear & Grill, the Arena at Harbor Yard & the Fairfield Schools. We have discovered head painting and watched as dozens of other events have sprouted and grown. It is amazing. We no longer have to explain what we are doing, the words “St. Baldrick’s” are known to many. People no longer think we are crazy. We have had to move the event from a bar on St Patrick’s day to midday on a Sunday as children began shaving their heads…slowly overtaking the adults! We have stopped using sharp razors in dimly lit bars & moved to clippers on well lit stages. Brent has joined us some years, bald not from chemotherapy, but from shaving his own head for others. We have raised $3.5 million to fight childhood cancer. We have made a difference. Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2gVMlMyShg Each year the St. Baldrick’s Foundation officially Knights an elite group who has helped shape St. Baldrick’s by being involved for at least seven years. Less than 1% of shavees are Knights!!! We have been pleased to Knight 26 people at our events: Becky Andronowitz, Tom Andronowitz, Rich Baron, Scott Bisson, Bette Blackwell, Dennis Brown, Jim Burgraff, Chris Calise, John Cody, Mike Donahue, Anne Farkas, Todd Goodfellow, Roger Haney, Bill Keough, Jane Kronick, Sam Mahler, Dana McCreesh, Mike McCreesh, Scot Parnell, Deb Placey, Pete Reiter, Ben Sachs, Neal Seideman, Stephen Seigel, Matt Wilcox, and John Wiseman. < How many new Knights will we honor this year???? Join us at 11:30 to find out. ***Event Committee: Kristin Nierman, Courtney Yanni, Jane Kronick, Alicia Westerlund & Becky Andronowitz
