Why I'm doing this.... 3 years ago this May, I lost somebody very close to me. My stepmother Carolyn lost her battle with pancreatic cancer. When she was first diagnosed, they gave her 3-6 months. She lived 19. When she was moved to hospice, they gave her only a couple days. She lived almost 3 weeks. To say she was a fighter, would be an understatement. It's hard to believe that she has been gone 3 years and not a day goes by that I don't think about her. The sad part is, 3 years later, we seem no closer to a cure. Watching her body succumb to this painful disease was the most difficult experience of my life. As hard as that was, I couldn't imagine how much worse it must be for a parent to learn their child has been diagnosed with cancer. Families are devastated on a daily basis by this news and the toll it must take o them is unimaginable. I am participating by shaving my head in solidarity with kids fighting cancer while raising money towards childhood cancer research. I am doing this because I want to make a difference in a child’s life, even if it is a small one. It seems we all have been affected by this disease either one way or another and every dollar towards research helps.
