I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Disney

At the beginning of December, I’m shaving my head. Yep, bald! Here’s why: Most of us know someone who has been diagnosed with cancer. My mother passed away within six months of her pancreatic cancer diagnosis. As difficult as that was, I can’t imagine how absolutely heart-breaking it must be when it happens to a child. Childhood cancers are not related to lifestyle factors, and little can be done to prevent them. There are over a dozen types of childhood cancers, and countless subtypes, making it more challenging for researchers to find cures for every kid. Especially when all types of childhood cancer combined only receive 4% for federal funding for research. Even when kids get cancers that adults get—like lymphoma—they must be treated differently. Children are not simply smaller adults. During treatment, kids face all kinds of side effects, some very uncomfortable, others life-threatening. That’s why St. Baldrick’s also funds research to improve supportive care for patients. So in addition to finding cures, a lot of research is focused on preventing the lifelong damage that results from surgeries, radiation and chemotherapies given while young bodies and brains are just developing. Kids can't fight childhood cancer alone. So, I’ve teamed up with my sister to raise funds for cancer research through St. Baldrick’s Foundation by pledging to shave our heads. Three minutes from now, a child will be diagnosed with cancer, and another family will be faced with the very real possibility of losing their child. Will you help? Please join us by making a donation in any amount- $5 DOES make a difference! In honor of all the children you will help, thank you.
