Many of you know Leslie, me and the story of our son , Cayden. There are many more of you who know families who have children, nieces, or nephews that have or have had to deal with pediatric cancer. Childhood cancer takes the lives of one of every 5 children diagnosed and that rate hasn’t improved in the last 20 years. An 80% chance sounds great unless your child is one of the five. It also does not tell the whole story, 70% of all children cured suffer life long side effects. Here’s some Cancer Facts • Cancer kills 7 kids every day in the United States • Over 13,500 kids are diagnosed with Cancer every year • 2 out of 3 pediatric cancer survivors later experience significant and chronic medical problems or develop secondary cancers as adults that results from their treatment • The tax payer supported National Cancer Institute gives less than 4% of their budget towards pediatric cancer. • The Amercan Cancer Society gives only 1% of donations towards pediatric cancer. • The FDA has approved only 1 new drug for child’s cancer in the last 20 years. St. Baldrick's funding goes exclusively to pediatric cancer research. Hopefully, one day, research will find a cure for every child that is diagnosed with cancer but if even if research just finds ways to reduce the side effects on these kids then your donation would have been a worthwhile investment for these kids. No parent should ever have to hear the words "there is nothing more we can do".
