I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research
Our story begins with our beautiful daughter, Brittney Jo Everhart. Brittney was a junior in high school when she woke up with a sore knee. She was a soccer and volleyball player and we understood that sore muscles were part of playing sports. After the initial doctor's appointment we were directed to Iowa City and learned that she had osteosarcoma. Osteosarcoma is a bone cancer. Brittney had her right leg amputated in hopes that by sacrificing her limb she would be cancer free. Unfortunately, this was not the case and we learned that the disease had spread into her lungs and was very aggressive and she would not recover from it. The phrase "Be Brittney Brave" is a common saying in and around Camanche because our beautiful blue eyed Brittney never shed a tear in the face of this life altering tragedy. She held her head up and said, "Some people say, "Why me!", and she would say, "Try Me!" She was one tough cookie and she teaches us every day to look to the positive things in life. We love her and miss her everyday. That is why we are shaving our head!
