For the 4th time I am shaving my head to raise money for St. Baldrick's Foundation!! Many of you know I have two classmates who have faced and beat cancer. This year I want to introduce you to James McCarthy: I met him a few years ago, because he plays lacrosse with my dad. Even though it's an over 35 league, he's really more of a kid at heart! He loves chicken tenders and Malts more than any kid I know. You tend to forget he ever had cancer, because he plays basketball and lacrosse. I'm so glad there were treatments that could save him, but it wasn't an easy road. Here is what he had to say about his battle with cancer when he was 12 years old:
"I had bone cancer. I was diagnosed when I was 12 in 1982. My treatment was a long list of surgeries to remove the cancerous bone a very aggressive chemotherapy program. That chemo stuff was the pits! Very yucky stuff. I was supposed to be on chemo for two years but due to complications from it I became very ill and I only ended up receiving 8 months’ worth. A Long story short, the illness was a very “touch and go” moment during my cancer treatment and, well, let’s just says I beat all odds and am lucky to be here today.” Everyone who knows Jim is lucky he is here today! He's GREAT! I hope that one day there will be a cure for all cancer! Please watch the video to learn more about St. Baldrick's and consider making a donation or joining me in shaving your head.
I've answered the call to be a hero! I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures.
Please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government.
Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids. Thank you!
