On February 16th, my son Sam was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Since then, he's been in treatment and is making great progress. This would not be possible if it weren't for the wonderful care of the many doctors, nurses and others involved in his treatment (including a great many family, friends and members of our community) and the tremendous progress that's been made in the fight to understand and cure his disease. As my brother pointed out just hours after we learned of Sam's diagnosis, it's not the same as when we were kids -- and we're quite thankful for that.
It didn't take long before we began learning about the many organizations who are committed to funding research and providing support to families like ours. When friends introduced us to St. Baldrick's and asked if they could organize a fundraiser in Sam's honor, it didn't take long for us to decide to lend our support.
I've been helping kids grow into happy, healthy adults through volunteering in various youth sports programs for most of my life. And now I'm helping kids grow into happy, healthy adults through my support of the St. Baldrick's Foundation. I'm shaving my head to stand in solidarity with my son and other kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures.
Please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. You can count on your donation being used responsibly. The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives. In 2010 alone, they gave over $14 million -- that's more in grants for childhood cancer research than any other organization except the U.S. Government. All because nearly 38,000 people shaved their heads.
On behalf of Sam, and thousands of other very special kids, I thank you for your support.
