My reason for shaving my head again has now changed. On January 18, 2011, the precious little girl in pink in my photos, Jordan, lost her battle with cancer. I was honored to meet her and her mother. They have profoundly influenced me and I couldn't be more honored to be able to shave my head in memory of Jordan this St. Patrick's day.
One of the most amazing experiences I have ever had in my life was participating last July in my first St. Baldrick's event. It was an honor to be able to shave my head in my brother-in-law, Dr. Don Coulter's hospital where he is a pediatric oncologist. I met several patients and their families, including beautiful little Jordan, and also wonderful supporters of St. Baldrick's and other nurses and doctors who help fight this battle daily. I was humbled and uplifted all in one day. I rasied over $3000 and was completely humbled by the generosity of my friends, family and people I didn't even know. I had REALLY long hair that was donated to Lock of Love, which was something I had always wanted to do. And then....I was bald!
Well, I am ready to be crazy again. I have some amazing girls in my life who wanted to follow in their crazy mentor's footsteps and shave their heads, so thus, the 2011 Event we have planned came to be! How could I not shave my head again, alongside these amazing girls? These three (Brit, Katie and Ashleigh) are selfless girls, who want to make a difference and are ready to brave being bald.
In addition to shaving my head again, being able to be the orgaziner of this event here in Mesa has been a complete joy and I am loving being able to bring people together to help fight this battle. I know so many of you donated to me last year, and I want to thank you in advance for any support you can give, no matter how small. Some of the donations that blessed me the most were the small ones, because I knew how much of a sacrifice they were for the people who gave.
And please, come out and join us! This event will be at Shakepeare's Pub and Resturant in Mesa, AZ. I want as many people that can come to be there! We are going to have a blast fighting pediatric cancer!
In closing, please be in vigilant prayer for the families who have children fighting. They need boundless energy to go back and forth to treatments and doctors appointments, support from family, friends and medical staff, and any kindness they can get. This event is just one little way you can help support them. You have already blessed me. Thank you!
