What a year...
This ia the 9th year I've been involved with the St. Baldrick's Foundation. I've been looking forward to the shaving event, the interacting with everyone, meeting the special people who Make a Difference.
Hello, Covid-19.
I know how people with suppressed immuno-systems, like many of the young people undergoing treatment for cancer, have to be isolated. Socially distanced. Quarantined. Not because they are sick, but so we don't make *them* sick.
And now we are all in that situation.
Some things have changed. (I work for a school district - believe me, I know how things have changed!)
But there are things in this world that remain consistent. One of them is the St. Baldrick's Foundation.
The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a unique cancer research organization, in that the majority of funds raised at local events stays local. In the prior 8 years of being a St. Baldrick's participant, I've met several families that have had treatment, both conventional and experimental, funded by the St. Baldrick's Foundation. It isn't just about cancer treatment, though; St. Baldrick's is actively funding research aimed at preventing childhood cancers - or as one parent said to me, preventing the need for the treatment of childhood cancers.
This will be my Ninth Year working with St. Baldrick's, as a shavee. I had planned to volunteer, but with no event, well...
Even so, I set my goal for $750 this year, and thanks to many of you, we've exceeded it. That is fantastic. If you could spread the word among others who might increase that amount, that would be doubly fantastic.
I shaved my head on Saturday, March 28, at home. The before and after photos are here on the St. Baldrick's site. Feel free to post them on any social media site that you use; I only ask that you mention that I've shave to support St. Baldrick's, and give a link to this page.
Thank you for your past support, and any future help you can give.
