"You heard it right - I'm shaving my head in solidarity with children who have cancer and typically lose their hair during treatment, while raising critical funds for childhood cancer research!"
I was first inspired to participate in St. Baldrick's by my amazing sister, Erin. As a Clinical Assistant who works in oncology at Dell Children's Medical Center, Erin gets to work with incredible kids on a daily basis. I have heard both beautiful and heartbreaking stories about childhood cancer from people who experience it up close, and I have seen what both cancer and modern medicine are capable of.
Last year, Erin raised over $1600 as a shavee from her friends, family, and even total strangers. She not only provided this substantial donation, but was able to provide moral support for all the kids she works with every day... and she made the cutest bald chick I've ever seen!
I am choosing to participate in St. Baldrick's this year because I believe it is a thoughtful, simple way for me and people I know to make a difference. I also decided a year ago to stop cutting my hair so that I can donate my locks to be made into a wig!
My goal for this event is to meet (or beat!) Erin's $1600 mark. Whether you are able to donate $1, $10 or $100, it is much appreciated and I assure you, every little bit helps! If you don't know me personally, just know that I am both nervous and excited to be able to participate in this great cause. Even simple support like your words of encouragement or personal stories would be greatly appreciated!
My love goes out to Kayci, Raquel, and all of Erin's kids and their families... and to anyone whose lives have been affected by childhood cancer. Huge appreciation also goes out to all the medical professionals working towards a cure. You are all amazing!
Thank you everyone for your support!
"In the US, more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease. Please make a donation on my behalf to support childhood cancer research so that all children diagnosed with cancer will have a better chance for a cure.
