I'm shaving my head! Why is that, you might ask?
I'm shaving my head because an awesome little girl who is very dear to my heart battled neuroblastoma last year and is in remission. Her name is Emma Gayle and she is an amazing little girl. I watched from the sidelines and read blog posts of her progress, heck, I traveled cross country to be at a fundraiser BBQ for her family. I had seen the affects of childhood cancer, but never was it so personal. I thought if this hit me so hard, I can't even begin to imagine what it is like for her mother (my friend since childhood), father, sister and other family members. Then I thought about the reality of this for so many other families and how we all wished that there were more for the children and their families. It is just so damn unfair that any child and family has to go through this struggle.
So, I am hoping that by shaving my head I can bring greater awareness of childhood cancer and the need for research. I hope that by shaving my head the funds raised can be the funds that will help researchers and medical practitioners aid in the fight for these children.
My goal is to raise $500 for childhood cancer research. Consider every cent donated as a sponsorship for a single strand of my hair that is on the shaving block. I have made the choice to shave my hair in solidarity for the kids that don't get a choice in losing their hair while undergoing treatment.
Childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. So I decided to do something about it by raising money for potential cures and better treatments. Now I need your help! Will you make a donation? Will you sponsor me to shave my head or sponsor me in a vain and impossible attempt to have me keep my locks?
Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers. You can be a part of that difference.
Thank you in advance for your contribution to this very meaningful cause.
