We helped to raise money for childhood cancer research

Thank you so much for your generous donation to help kids with cancer complete their own race successfully!WHO IS ST. BALDRICK'S FOUNDATION? The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants. WHAT IS THE MARATHON DES SABLES? The Marathon des Sables (MdS, French for "Marathon of the Sands”) is one of the toughest footraces in the world. Infamous for being both a mental and physical challenge, it’s an annual six-day, 251 km (156 mi) ultramarathon held in the Sahara Desert within Southern Morocco. Armed with packs full of food, clothing, sleeping bags, and medical kits, our champions, Darin & Julie, are ready to battle through 120F heat for children with cancer. DID YOU KNOW? Childhood cancer is the #1 disease killer of children in the US. Many adult cancers can be diagnosed early. In 80% of kids, cancer has already spread to other areas of the body by the time it is diagnosed. On average, by age 50, childhood cancer survivors have experienced 17 adverse health effects as a result of their treatment, and 3-5 of those are life-threatening.CHAMPIONS FOR KIDSDARIN DOBLER Originally from California, Darin has always been drawn to the outdoors through running, biking, swimming, or short adventure races. Darin has also trained jiu-jitsu for 10 years and competed in his first triathlon last year. He’s worked in medical and cancer research for over 13 years since completing his graduate work in the UK. Darin was motivated to combine his passion for the outdoors with his professional dedication to cancer research by embarking on this MdS adventure with his wife Julie.JULIE ANNA CORNELIUS Julie’s lifelong passion for challenging herself began with 10 years in classical ballet, studying abroad at Cambridge University, UK, an internship at the White House, 8 years as a corporate flight attendant, and 10 years as a professional poker player. Her focus on bringing joy to others and love of exploring different cultures and countries has sparked multiple adventures leading to discovering the world together with her husband Darin. Julie hopes to inspire and encourage other amateur runners to try something new and challenge them to go outside of their comfort zone.
