This will be the 3rd year that team Just Give Me the Damn Bald! will come together like Voltron in an effort to fight kids cancer. Obviously the novelty of seeing us bald has diminished, but at least we’ve inspired one of the most critically acclaimed songs of all time. Ironically, they don’t share the same affinity we have for folic dismemberment.
Many think the success we’ve had has gone to our heads (Is that a pun? I can’t decide). But those people just aren’t hairing what we’ve been saying (ok, that was intentional, I promise to stop now). Yes, we’re kind of a big deal. Yes, we’re sexy. Yes, we drive Dodge Stratus’. And yes, we’re cocky. But that doesn’t mean we’re cocky. We’re just a few family guys and gals who want to help. Glad I could SHED some light on this topic.
Pearl Jam’s awesomeness, and my continued befuddlement over Katy Perry’s success. These are things that never change. For most of us, the world turns slowly, and “same stuff, different day” becomes a way of life. But for some, today results in something different. Today marks the day that another family will hear the worst news of their lives. Today is the day when a child will be forced to be braver then any child should ever have to be.
When I was a kid, watching the 6 Million Dollar Man, I remember thinking it was a given that when I get older Jetpacks would become common place. And how cool I’d be rocketing around the atmosphere, while all the pedestrians below would be jealous of how cool I was. It was around the same time I heard the word Cancer for the first time. And thinking, “that sounds horrible, but it’s a given by the time I’m a grownup I won’t have to worry about that, scientists will have found a cure by then”. As much as I’m bitter and disappointed I didn’t get to work this morning using a Jetpack, it’s my other childhood “given” that is the real travesty. We’ve come a long way, but we should be further. More research. More development. Better patient care. And we all know that takes money. Please Help
Love,
Team JGMTDB!
