If you did a quick google search on:

“How to Make the World a Better Place”, you will get the following answers:

1. Try giving back to your community....

2. Stand up for causes that you care about....

3. Do random acts of kindness for loved ones or people you meet throughout the day....

4. Find like-minded people who are committed to the same cause as you and can help you make an impact.

We live in a very small town in Upstate NY. Our school district, Gilbertsville-Mt Upton, has about 300 kids Pre-K-12th grade, all in 1 building. That being said, we are very lucky to have some amazing humans in our little school. This story starts decades ago when our team captain, Bruce, lost a loved one to childhood cancer. The loss of a child, especially one close to you, is devastating. Bruce made a lifelong commitment after his loss to raise funds for children with cancer.

Trying to make a long story short, fast forward several years and Team Bruce was formed.

What is Team Bruce? It is currently 7 kids that have joined up with Bruce to raise money for St. Baldricks. The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer and donor powered charity committed to supporting the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers. The team collects donations and gathers together to shave their heads in support for kids with cancer. Our local event takes place on March 19th 2022. While Bruce is almost a dinosaur, Bryce- 8, Henry-9, Dylan-9, Lily- 10, Cooper-10, Caden-11 and Kaden-11 make up the team. That is 7 kids, 11 and under, that are raising funds for kids with cancer! AND it’s not their 1st time, this is the 3rd year in a row! Who isn’t impressed by that? They are the very definition of “How to Make the World a Better Place!” In 2020 with a team of 3, they raised $6,800 and in 2021, a team of 6 raised $4,395. With Covid coming in March of 2020, the grand event was closed down to only participants and the team was unable to celebrate their great accomplishment with family and friends. Last year and this year the event will be virtual. This group gives so much, they deserve a shout out and recognition! No, they don’t do it for that but what better way to encourage our youth? They are doing something so impactful, selfless and kind. I don’t think they understand just how amazing they are!

These 8 people, are making the world a better place! With that being said, I am hoping you will help share this POSITIVE story and help say, Way to go Team Bruce, we are so proud of you! You may be small but you are mighty!

Thank you for your time,

What’s better than shaving your head to support childhood cancer research? Banding together as a team to raise even more!

Please support our team with a donation to save lives. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is the largest non-government funder of childhood cancer research, but donations have been down sharply since the pandemic.

Let’s make sure kids know we have their back.

Please give generously, to give kids with cancer the long, healthy lives they deserve. Thank you!
