Statement for St. Baldrick’s event during the Corona Virus Pandemic:

During these historic times, as our nation struggles to combat the Covid-19 (Corona Virus) pandemic, the members of the Kings Park Firefighters St. Baldrick’s Foundation shave team want the many children who are inflicted with pediatric cancers to know that “WE STILL HAVE YOUR BACKS”. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation mission is to provide funding for the worlds finest researchers and support the most innovative projects that are leading the way to cures for kids with cancer. The members of the KP Firefighters raise monetary donations for the foundation by volunteering to shave our heads and for some of us that are more follicly challenged, shave our beards and mustaches as we stand united and show support for kids who have cancer.

Team KP Firefighters are comprised of Kings Park Fire Department volunteers, current and retired law enforcement, health care professionals, members of several local community organizations and students from our very own Kings Park central school district. Together with community spirit, the team was to take part in the St. Baldrick’s event hosted by organizers John Weeden and Chris Binster of The Park Lounge, 605 East Main St., Kings Park on Sunday March 22nd. Because of the national response to the Corona virus pandemic that event, which usually brings crowds of hundreds, was cancelled.

In keeping with the rules and guidelines put forth by our elected officials and health care officials the team has made the decision to continue to show support to the kids with cancer that we stand with. Again, in a great show of community spirit the staff at the Kings Park Barber and Stylist located at 14 Indian Head Rd., Kings Park have volunteered their time after business hours to shave our participants. The team will practice social distancing and not congregate more than 10 persons at any time.

While our community and nation struggle in dealing with the Covid-19 (Corona) pandemic, team KP Firefighters wish you and your family the very best of health and we also realize that life goes on. As we move forward and get through these tough times together please keep in your thoughts and prayers the young boys and girls with cancer who continue to fight every day for their lives. We thank our families, friends and coworkers who support us during this fundraiser. If you have not had an opportunity to donate please go to Stbaldricks.org and type in KP Firefighters or any team members name to donate. Thank you again for your support!!!
