Thank you for visiting our site! We hope that you can help us reach our goal this year. The more help the better! Here is a story of one family who has been and will be directly affected by the St. Baldrick's Foundation: Here is Joey Lopez-Egan's story as provided by his his family: Our son Joey was 2 months shy of his 6th birthday when his 11 1/2 month battle with Burkitt's Leukemia and Lymphoma came to an end. It was a relatively short time, but to all of us, it seemed like a lifetime. Our family learned what happens when everyone pulls together to help a family in crisis. The outpouring of love and support not only from family and friends, but strangers was overwhelming. We couldn't believe that people we didn't even know would want to lend a helping hand. Their words of encouragement, prayers, offers of help and financial support went a long way in helping us deal with everything. It helped restore - especially my - faith in humanity. Joey became a hero to many and today has a special place in all of our hearts. He did a great job of learning quickly how to adapt and deal with the numerous trips to the hospital, clinic and all the medicaiton he needed to take. The treatment he was given was the most up to date he could receive. However, Joey not only had a rare and aggressive form of cancer, but a rare subtype of this cancer. There is no cure for this subtype. That we know. The doctors did everything in their power to cure him. He even had a bone marrow transplant. My family can rest easy knowing there was truly nothing left that we could have done to save him. What is needed is more research. Of course, money is needed for this research. St. Baldrick's Foundation is an organization with the mission to fund research to cure pediatric cancer. Without research, Joey would not have had a fighting chance. When he relapsed before the transplant, the doctors used their network to find the best combiniation to get him back into remission. These doctors are the ones receiving the grants to do further research and find cures. Joey's brother Daniel will be shaving his head for the 2nd time this year. Besides asking for donations from friends and family he is also donating some of his own money for this event. He tells us that when he grows up and is rich, he will donate all his money to cancer research and the poor. Who can ask for more from a 9 year old? Thank you for your dedication to finding a cure. Please remember to LIVE, LOVE, LAUGH and have FAITH! Sincerely, The Lopez Egan Family Until there is a cure...
