I trimmed to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Team CKCKC

When I was 2 years old, I was very sick and they found out I had an inoperable brain tumor. I went through three tough years of treatment and, finally, got the tumor to stop growing. I have enjoyed over seven years off treatment!
But, the effects of my tumor and treatment continue to impact my life. For Christmas 2022, I had an unexpected two week stay at the hospital over the holiday and had two surgeries to correct my shunt in my brain.
The effects of those surgeries impacted me every day throughout 2023. I had varying levels of dizziness and pressure and had several stints where I couldn't lift my head because of the pain. After months of discussion and appointments, my neurosurgeon decided to try something radical - turning off my shunt and seeing if my brain could handle processing fluid on its own.
I had surgery on January 19, 2024 and, now, my brain is doing its job independently, which is wonderful. Unfortunately, I still sometimes feel phantom pressure. I am working with a specialist to teach my brain that everything is actually, physically okay.

THIS IS WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP! During my years at the hospital, I made lots of friends. (many of them are in my "honored kids" section below) I have had to say goodbye to many of them, as fifty percent of kids with brain tumors do not make it. My friends and I who are still here are up against some tough odds too. The treatment we have had as kids will cause 99% of my friends who survive to have chronic health problem and 96% of us to have severe or life-threatening condition by the time we’re 50.

WE MUST DO BETTER! Research is the only way.

I know I am lucky that my treatment worked. To help all my friends at the hospital, I cut my hair in December and I am donating 12 inches of ponytail to be made into a wig for a child in need. I am volunteering again this year and making all kinds of crafts to raise money and get more medicines so all the kids who have cancer can be lucky like me.
