Hey everyone! In May I'll be joining some folks doing a head shaving event to raise money for childhood cancer research. I've set a modest fundraising goal of $100, and I'm hoping that my friends will help me shatter that. I know that most of my friends are as strapped for cash as I am, but if even just a third of my friends donate $5, that $100 is very doable.
I'm shaving in honor of three very special people:
1) My dear friend Kerin Elizabeth, who, against all odds, survived cancer at age 5. Unfortunately, her battle with cancer left her with numerous and significant health issues, including chronic congestive heart failure. She missed Christmas this year because she was in the hospital. She's only 19, and braver and tougher than anyone else I know. **Tragically, I need to update this profile...my friend Kerin passed away on February 1st of this year due to the damage done to her body as a child during her cancer treatment. This shave is now even more important to me!
2) Max Nunn, who passed away in 2011 from a form of childhood cancer. I met his dad Tom here on Facebook, and through his posts and messages, I got to know his family, and learned about childhood cancer.
3) Carla Hood, who survived childhood cancer as an infant, and 50 years later is still going strong. She's a literal walking, breathing billboard of childhood cancer awareness, and an incredible human being.
