My medical school classmates and I are raising money for childhood cancer research! Every two minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer. That’s 300,000 kids around the world every year. And in the U.S., it is the number one disease killer of children-one in five children diagnosed will not survive. On May 2, 2001 Claire Goudeau became that one in five. Our close family friend, neighbor, and my older sisters‘s childhood best friend lost her battle to an inoperable brain tumor prior to her 10th birthday. Just like the thousands of other children, she was a beautiful, loving, and innocent child taken from the world too soon.
Childhood cancer is different than adult cancers and only receives 4% of the U.S. federal funding for cancer research. Childhood cancer research- and more funding for it- is more crucial than ever before, so I decided to do something about it by raising money for cures. I will be cutting 8 inches off and donating my hair at the Geaux Bald fundraising event in honor of Claire Renee Goudeau( 5/31/1991-5/2/2001) and all the other children who have either passed away or are continuing to fight their battle against cancer.
Now I need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference in helping to find a cure for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers so that they may get to experience the beauty of life and everything the world has to offer, like you and I get to experience .
