I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Team Averi

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Team Averi

This March will mark the 10 year anniversary of Averi passing from Ewing’s sarcoma, a type of bone cancer found most often in teenagers and young adults. Averi was diagnosed right before she became an official teenager and arrived back home to celebrate her 13th birthday after her first round of chemo! Not how you would ever imagine your child entering their teenage years.

Averi bravely went through 3 years of treatment for her cancer. Unfortunately, it returned after her first round of treatment and Averi had to endure a stem cell rescue in the hopes of saving her life. I don’t talk or share a lot about the horrors of cancer treatment. The stem cell rescue stripped her of her lining in her digestive tract, causing her to vomit blood among other things. It caused her skin to turn black. And all I could do was pray & offer her my love, support & comfort however possible. The third time it came back, they told us their was no cure.

Eddie began shaving his head during Averi’s treatment through St. Baldrick’s & one year Ethan even shaved his head! St. Baldrick’s foundation is solely for childhood cancer research. In the U.S., more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease. St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer and donor powered charity committed to supporting the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors a long and healthy life.

So, when Hannah approached me about shaving our heads together this year in remembrance of our dear Averi, it didn’t take her too long to persuade me to jump on the bus with her. We are setting our goal high, because we believe that you will help us to reach this goal!Together, we are aiming to raise $10,000.00 to shave our golden locks off this March, at St. Baldrick’s near the 10 year anniversary date of Averi’s passing on March 12th. One thousand dollars for every year that we have had to live without Averi physically being a part of our lives. We are kicking off our fundraising in September for Childhood Cancer Awareness month!

Please consider clicking on our link to our St. Baldrick’s fundraiser page & donating to Hannah & I! In honor & remembrance of Averi, we will strive hard to reach our goal so that other children will hopefully never have to go through what we watched Averi go through.
