I am shaving in in honor and memory of a little girl from Ireland named Alisha who had a rare tumor called Atypical Teratoid Rhabdoid Tumor(ATRT). However, Alisha was so much more than her cancer. As her mom puts it, "Alisha was a little diva who loved sparkles, glitter, and her style. She never let cancer beat her down and always found a way to deal with the tough days of chemo, bloodwork, radiotherapy, or being poked and prodded or in pain. Alisha would deal with all of this by going shopping, eating her favorite food, getting her nails done, wearing her favorite dress, or doing art with LOADS of sparkles. Alisha was always stronger than cancer, always."
Alisha's family continues to honor her by donating toys to kids in the hospital every year on her birthday. It is my hope that this fundraiser not only raises awareness and resources for kids like Alisha, but also makes us all remember that there are lots of families out there with stories like Alisha's and they deserve better.
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, so in honor of Alisha I am asking you all to consider donating and also check out Alisha's facebook page, Alisha's Rainbow Gift, to learn more about her story and the charity that her family has set up in her memory.
Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
