Hi my name is Alex. If I may, I would like to tell you a little about myself. I have been a sufferer of a rare esophageal disorder named Eosniophilic Esophagitis. This condition has left me with an abdominal feeding port which is used to obtain my daily nutrition due to the inability to swallow most foods, along with over 100 environmental allergies. I am now 20 years old and as much as I could be angry that my childhood was stolen from me by countless hospital stays in three different states along with my continued treatment, instead I feel lucky! Lucky because I will live a long life. During my multiple hospitals stays I encountered other children that would never reach the age I am now and some that would sadly never leave the hospital. There was a little girl whom I encountered during my first hospital stay, she has never left my thoughts and she changed my outlook forever. She was approximately 3 years old, dressed in pink including her hair beads which matched her back pack. She was giggling while she ran up and down the pre-op waiting area. She began to approach strangers saying hi, as many toddlers do, as she approached my family and I we noticed her back pack was not an ordinary back pack. It was carrying her ventilator attached to her tracheotomy. At this point I realized I might be sick but it could be worse, for some reason I knew I would live. I looked at my mom and told her to stop worrying, which if you know my mom that is impossible. I told my mom I was not going to die.
My condition has only been researched for approximately 20 years and at this point there is not a cure. It seems UNBELIEVABLE THAT THERE IS NOT A CURE FOR CANCER YET!!!!!! Maybe if everyone sacrificed one thing everyday, even something as simple as a $7 coffee, donating that money there might be enough money to fund more research.
I am shaving in hopes to raise money to find a cure for children's cancers so other children and their families will not suffer like the the ones I have encountered. I mentioned the families because I have watched my mom, since the day I was diagnosed, tirelessly research hospitals, fight with insurance companies, loose her entire self in search of the best care for me. She and my step-dad will never stop.
We as a society are all responsible for the safety and well being of all children. I ask for your donation so we as a people can help to bring an end to this suffering. I am just doing my part.
PLEASE DO YOUR PART SO MOMS AND DADS MAY TUCK THEIR LITTLE ONES IN THEIR OWN BEDS AND STOP THE SUFFERING.
