On March 15, I will get my head shaved, in an attempt to raise money for and support children’s cancer research. Blessed with a lot of hair, I've managed to avoid St. Baldrick's until now, but this year, I couldn't resist the temptation and pressure to join in to raise funds, increase awareness, and to show support to many kids that lost their hair during treatment.
This subject is close to my heart. My wife, Ellen, is still bearing the scars of her battle against cancer as a young kid, and we are daily confronted with the life-changing consequences. She survived, thanks to the advancement of medical treatment that wouldn't have been available just a few years earlier. But many children aren't that lucky: worldwide, about 100,000 children die each year from childhood cancer. However, progress is still made, survival rates are still increasing due to better therapies. A lot of this research is funded by non-profit organizations like St Baldrick's.
Shaving my head will not solve all world's problems. It might make a small difference though, but only so if you're willing to support me. I will make a fool of myself, you will have to be the one donating some money. So please, donate, whether you just enjoy the idea of me getting rid of my hair, or because you support the cause for which I'm doing it.
Thank you for your support.
