I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

I'm shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research and also to show that you don't need hair to feel beautiful. A few years back, a camp counselor inspired me. She knew a little girl who was diagnosed with a form of cancer, and her treatments took her hair away. This counselor shaved her head because the little girl told her how upset she was that the treatments would take her hair and make her ugly.

This really stuck with me and I personally have not been affected by cancer, but I want to show people around me and people affected by cancer that hair does not determine your beauty or worth.

Throughout this whole process of me deciding to shave my head. At first it was specifically to donate, but the reactions I've received from friends and family once I shared my news has been the largest driving factor. Most, in fact all but ONE, reaction has been negative and gone something along the line of either "Please, don't do it", "No! You're hair is so pretty." to "You'll look so weird, please don't!" Granted I haven't shared this news with everyone in my life, but I'm so blown away by how much people care about MY appearance.

You don't need hair to be or feel beautiful and I want to show that to the people around me and to any children or adults that have had to lose their hair because of this disease. There is so much more to life than hair y'all and I'll show you.
