I'm proud to add Skyport Systems as a sponsor of St. Baldrick's and offer my head as the "first" Skyport Shavee. I can't think of a better way for a young company to build a culture of giving back or a better cause than raising funds to fight childhood cancers.
Over the last several years, I've been impressed and inspired by the incredible participants in St. Baldrick's, the money they have raised and their willingness to be 'walking billboards' for childhood cancer research. Every year there seemed to be more bald heads everywhere in my community, (Rockville Centre) and in the NY tech community.
2 years ago, my 2 sons shaved their heads and wondered why I didn't. Wasn't interested - I'll grow a beard in November. But this year, I watched my daughter's 6th grade class rally in support of her classmate fighting cancer, then the entire school. All 4 of my kids are have been inspired and I feel like its time for me join them in doing something tangible.
I've also watched as this organization became a special one in the NY tech eco-system. While I was off on a tour of Wall St., ex-colleugues and many friends in technology rallied around Bill and Joey. They inspired so many at NetApp and along the way, the larger IT Industry. Just at NetApp - 100 events, 2,500 shavees and over $6.0M raised (employees of NetApp, WebHouse, SAP, ADP, WWT and more) along with their families, friends, business partners and customers.
I look forward to seeing friends old and new, customers past and future on April 4th. I hope that friends from my travels on Wall St will consider joining me and helping grow this incredible organization. Contribute in any way you can, come join me for a pint, some laughs and a great cause.
