Team Joseph was formed by Joseph and his family. When Joseph was 5 years old he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in July of 2011. He underwent 8 ½ cycles of chemo over a course of about 18 months. His chemo ended in October 2012 when his body wasn’t recovering after the last round of chemo. This past September, 2014, he hit a huge milestone – two years off of chemo and his tumor is stable. His type of tumor is most likely to grow in the first two years off of chemo so this was a very huge milestone to hit! He has participated in St. Baldricks the past 3 years. Since the first year, 2012, a team was formed in his honor he has wanted to raise money to fight against cancer. He is raising money for St. Baldricks and fighting for a cure for childhood cancer for him and kids like him who are truly in the fight of and for their lives! He is having his head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures and not only cures but safer treatments. The reality is he (and other kids diagnosed with cancer) will continue to have many doctor appointments and tests for years to come. And the same treatments that today are saving their lives could cause significant health problems in their future. However because of research his cancer has a treatment and because of research that is done because of funds from organizations like St. Baldricks, his oncologist has a Plan B in place in case his tumor would grow but also said that IF it does ever grow again there may be all new treatments available.
If you wonder if the dollars you donate directly impact us here the answer is YES! Joseph’s oncologist has actually been a St. Baldrick’s grant recipient and most recently received one specifically for brain tumor research that she is doing. The money you give today directly impacts Joseph’s life and the lives of other children with cancer or who will be fighting it in the future!
Now I need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
