Many of you know, some may not, that I shave my head every year for the
St. Baldrick's event, a tremendous organization that raises money to
fund Childhood Cancer research. The first year or two of doing this I
may have even solicited some of you for donations. I don't take
solicitation lightly and realize we are asked in many different ways to
contribute to worthy causes. I also realize that paying to see me, of
all people, shave their head is quite underwhelming (Exhibit A attached).
Unfortunately the event has suffered a dwindling interest since I first
shaved in 2007.
Last year however, I was Knighted as a member of the Bald Table and feel
it is my duty to uphold my responsibilities.
I didn't attend St. Baldricks in 2011 because it conflicted with a 5K
Mud Run that I agreed to do with Mark, the year of his first surgery.
Mark and I made a donation to St. Baldricks and shaved our heads in
solidarity with the brave people of St. Baldricks. I delivered an
envelope to my sister at St. Baldricks that morning on our way to the
5K, my smile concealing the lump in my throat. When I think back on that
day they both return, the smile then the lump. I've attached my message that
day.
Our little community has been stricken by cancer far too many times. It's a
helpless feeling to sit back and watch the
devastation, so we do what we can. I do this. I will honor Mark by
helping others and this year I am asking for your help. I've set my goal
@ a modest $ 230 and ask that you consider donating $23 in my name and
in his honor. It'll only take 10 of you to help me reach my goal.
Please feel free to share this with anyone, anyhow...who knows, maybe we can
raise $ 2,300 !!
Here's to Blue Skies and a steady tailwind for all the brave little kids
fighting for their lives!!
Thank you. Rich
I'm shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research! Did you know that kids' cancers are different from adult cancers? It's true. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. So I decided to do something about it by raising money for cures.
Now I need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
