WELL...friends, family, acquaintances, I am going bald! Most of you that have known me for awhile probably remember my long-haired skater days, or the mophead days, or the days where I rocked the combover (both in elementary school and now...). I've never had a desire to have really short hair, or even to have a buzz cut. This is why the idea of shaving my head has always been horrifying to me--because it never has been that way...and I think I have a really large forehead, but I've never really seen the whole thing so I can't be sure.
With that being said, I knew it would take an exceptional cause for me to have the desire to shave my head. Thanks to my brothers in Alpha Tau Omega, I've found that cause, and it's childhood cancer. And I can't wait to help. Finally, I've decided to stop being selfish about something so petty (my image, my hair) and use it to contribute to an amazing cause.
My cousin Hailey, who passed at a young age from a rare brain disease called Lissencephaly, is my inspiration for this event. Though Lissencephally is not a form of cancer, I have experienced the heartache from losing a child relative in the family, and that is a feeling that I hope no one ever has to endure. That is my motivation for participating in this event; if it can help save just one family from the pain of losing a child, I will be so incredibly humbled.
My fundraising goal for this event personally is $200.00, and our organization's goal is $5,000.00, but my real goal is to reach far beyond those numbers. If you can contribute in any way, I would be infinitely grateful. Let's do this!
