I've answered the call to be a hero! I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures. Please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U. S. government. Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids. Thank you! My son Albin, the Robot Boy for whom our team is named, is in remission from a PNET located in his brain stem and spinal cord. He was a healthy, advanced child with not so much as a virus until around his second birthday. He began having respiratory illnesses, and eventually he stopped walking, complaining of dizziness. We learned the reason for both things was the tumor and the massive amount of fluid in his brain, as the tumor wasn't allowing the brain fluid to travel from his skull and down his spinal cord. His respiratory illness was caused by silent aspiration, which was occurring when he ate and drank. He is unable to cough, gag, or choke, and therefore food and liquid was traveling into his lungs unknown to us. He is recovering, but he is on a ventilator, and he is physically impaired. It is unknown how much of his former abilities he will recover or how much long term damage he will have from his treatments. Robot Boy endured six rounds of chemo and 30 radiation treatments. We were inpatient at CHNOLA for an entire year. He suffered multiple infections and complications during his treatments.
When you donate to St. Baldrick's Foundation, you are really helping to fund research that will help kids like my son. You are helping to pay for research so that more sophisticated and assured treatments can be discovered.
Thank you for your donations. I can't express how important this issue is to myself and our family. And more specifically to all the kids, like Robot Boy, who will be diagnosed with cancer.
