I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Team DiMar

Nate and I are proud to be a team again this year in support of the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U. S. government. Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. This year we are privileged to honor Clio Moock, a family friend, in her battle against cancer. Clio was diagnosed last July, at age five and a half, with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. She started her treatment at the Floating Hospital for Children where she was inpatient for a month, and now she's being treated at Dana Farber's Jimmy Fund Clinic. She has to go there twice a week for chemo. Most of the time, she feels good and runs around like an ordinary kid, but every three weeks she has to do an extra load of chemo plus five days of high dose steroids, and feels lousy and tired for a whole week. She's lost most of her hair, and gained weight due to the steroids. She and her family have to be very careful about germs because her immune system is compromised. She'll continue getting treatment for another year and a half. Luckily, the cure rates for the kind of leukemia she has are very high -- about 90%! But the side effects and potential complications of chemo (some of which she experienced -- one of the drugs she was getting gave her seizures) are dangerous. Continued research will help ensure that in the future, kids like Clio won't have to deal with the kinds of side effects and complications they face now. Clio loves music, telling jokes, and making things out of paper and tape. She is looking forward to playing soccer for the first time this spring. She has a twin sister, Elsa, who is just as brave and strong as she is. It's not easy having a sibling with cancer. So when Nate and I are asking for your support, We are really asking you to support children like Clio. We can't thank you enough for your support this year and in years past!
