How did the St. Baldrick's event get started?

How did I get involved?
My brother-in-law is a fireman with the North Plainfield Fire Department and has participated in this event for years. A few years ago my son decided to participate and was able to collect $500 in donations! When I hear stories about children with cancer I am in awe of the strength and courage of the children ---- and their parents! As a parent, I cannot imagine the heartbreak of hearing that my child has cancer. Like every other parent, I pray each day for my children's safety, well being, and good health. I know how blessed I am to have healthy children. In gratitude for their good health, I have decided to participate in this event with the hope that a cure will be found.
What am I asking of you?
I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures.
Please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. If everyone who reads this could donate $10, I know I could raise a lot of money for this cause!
You can continue to log onto this website page to track my progress. I will also be posting a picture of myself at the end of the event - so be sure to log back on after March 23 to see how I look with my head shaved! My son, Kevin, is also participating this year and you can track our "team" progress by cutting and pasting this link into your browser: http://www.stbaldricks.org/teams/mypage/81814/2013.
This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government. Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids. Thank you!
